Capital raised via IPOs (mainboard)

FY2024 was a record year for IPO capital-raising. India emerged as the world's top IPO market by volume in 2023 and 2024. New-age tech (Zomato 2021, LIC 2022, Hyundai India 2024) and SME IPOs drove volumes. Strong retail participation (record demat accounts) supports market depth. High valuations of some IPOs have been followed by underperformance; SEBI has tightened OFS and anchor allotment norms.

Includes mainboard and SME IPOs listed on NSE and BSE. FY2024 saw 272 IPOs — a record. Improved regulatory framework (T+3 listing, UPI-based ASBA), wider demat account penetration, and robust retail demand fuelled the boom. A number of SME IPOs have attracted scrutiny for limited float and related-party transactions; SEBI introduced stricter SME IPO norms in 2024.
