Biren Singh as Chief Minister of Manipur in February 2026 amid ongoing ethnic tensions between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities that had caused widespread violence since May 2023. The change was seen as BJP's attempt to restore stability in the state ahead of any reconciliation process. He was Deputy CM and a senior BJP leader in Manipur.
