V.D. Satheesan led the UDF (Congress-led) to victory in the 2026 Kerala assembly elections, ending LDF's back-to-back terms. Known as a sharp debater in the Assembly, he became KPCC president in 2021 and rebuilt the Congress base after the 2021 defeat. Kerala broke its own historical precedent of alternating governments by giving LDF a second term in 2021; the UDF reclaimed power in 2026.
