Rekha Gupta became Delhi's 9th CM and second woman CM after BJP won 48 of 70 seats in the February 2025 Delhi elections, ending AAP's 10-year rule. The election came after the 2024 arrest and bail of Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case. As Delhi is a Union Territory, the CM's powers are limited relative to state CMs — the Lieutenant Governor retains control over police and land. Her government has focused on reversing several AAP welfare schemes while maintaining others like free water and electricity.
