Rio is the most experienced Naga political leader, having been CM across multiple terms. He leads the NDPP in a coalition with BJP. Nagaland remains the state most affected by the long-standing Naga peace process — the Framework Agreement signed between NSCN-IM and the central government in 2015 remains unresolved. His government has worked to bring all Naga political groups under a negotiated settlement.
