Khelo India Mission — Budget Outlay

Khelo India was launched in January 2018 with a modest ₹520 crore outlay focused on sports infrastructure and talent identification. Budget 2026-27 upgraded it to the Khelo India Mission with a 10-year horizon and ₹36,441 crore total allocation — a 70x increase. Targets: Top 10 sporting nations by the 2036 Olympics (India hosts the 2036 games in Ahmedabad, bid awarded 2023) and Top 5 by 2047. Key pillars: 1,000 Khelo India Centres in tier-2/3 cities, high-performance academies, annual Khelo India Games across school/university/winter editions, and ₹500 crore for sports goods manufacturing cluster under PLI. India finished 100th at Paris 2024 Olympics with 6 medals; the 2036 hosting gives a 10-year runway to build competitive depth.
