Context & shortfalls

DBT transfers benefits directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, bypassing intermediaries. 313 central schemes use DBT as of 2024. Covers LPG subsidy, PMJDY, MGNREGS, scholarships, PM-KISAN, pensions, and more. Government estimates ₹3.48 lakh crore saved in FY2014–FY2024 by eliminating ghost beneficiaries and middlemen. However, exclusion errors (beneficiaries without Aadhaar or active bank accounts not receiving entitled benefits) are documented concerns.
